Evora Althouse

January 19, 1940 - January 1, 2025 (Age 84)

Evora B. Althouse, age 84, slipped into eternity and into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday morning, January 1, 2025, at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community, surrounded by family. She was the beloved wife of the late Ronald L. Althouse, with whom she shared 64 wonderful years of marriage. Ron passed away on February 20, 2024.

Born in Lancaster, Evora was the daughter of the late James G. and Grace V. Mundis Cramer. A woman of deep faith and service, she was a lifelong member of the former St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Lancaster, Evora served faithfully in many roles, including junior church director, volunteering with the church’s food bank, and sharing encouragement through her card ministry. She was also an active participant in the United Methodist Women and Williamson Sunday School class.

In her earlier years, Evora worked at Watt & Shand as an elevator operator, and at Coe Camera Shop. Her entrepreneurial spirit and encouragement of her husband led her to operate a wedding invitation business from her home for many years.

Evora’s kind, loving, and creative spirit brought joy to all who knew her. Her determination to keep pushing on through the pain and difficulties of having MS was sheer inspiration to all who knew her. She loved maintaining, relaxing, and swimming in the family pool, cheering on the Phillies, and enjoying music. Known for being a compassionate listener, she impacted many lives, offering her ear and wisdom to those who sought her counsel. Above all, Evora’s greatest joy was dedicating her life to her husband, children, and grandchildren.

Evora is survived by her four children: Susan, wife of Blaik Westhoff of Willow Street; Rob Althouse of Pequea; Rick Althouse of Lewisberry; and Elaine Potts of Willow Street. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and her two sisters: Fay L. Miller of Lancaster and Dawn M. Barr of Strasburg. She was preceded in death by her brother, David J. Cramer.

Evora’s legacy of faith, love, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

A funeral service will be held at Grace Community Church of Willow Street, 212 Peach Bottom Road, Willow Street, on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Kyle Fisher officiating. Interment will follow at Riverview Burial Park. A viewing will be held at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. For those unable to attend in person, live streaming of the service can be accessed at gccws.net/funeral several minutes prior to the 11:00 service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Evora’s memory to the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community Employee Appreciation Fund, 625 Robert Fulton Highway, Quarryville, PA 17566, or to the MS Society at nationalmssociety.org.
