Faustina F. Jakela

January 4, 1938 – July 25, 2026 (Age 88)

It is with profound sadness and sorrow that we announce the passing of our loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Faustina F. (Amatangelo) Jakela. She passed away surrounded by her family at Allegheny General Hospital on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at the age of 88 years young.

She was born in Donora on January 4, 1938, the youngest of ten children, to the late Joseph A. Amatangelo, Sr. and the late Immaculata (Pulcini) Amatangelo.

Faustina was a devout Catholic and longtime member of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish. Faustina was a kind and gentle soul who always had something nice to say and was the most selfless person her family knew. She was generous to a fault, would go above and beyond for anyone and was loved by all.

She was an avid volunteer and worked tirelessly at the church fish fry for many years. She spent a lot of time at the Donora Senior Center and looked forward to helping with their fundraisers.

She was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan, enjoyed gardening, playing bingo and completing crossword puzzles.

Surviving to cherish her memory is her dancing partner and loving husband, Frank “Fritz” Jakela, Jr. whom she would’ve celebrated 68 years of marriage with on August 23; her three children, Jay F. (Jhon J. Hernandez) Jakela of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, James K. (Chauntay) Jakela of Washington, PA, and Judi M. (Todd) Rongaus of South Park; grandchildren, James K. Jakela, Jr., Christopher J. Jakela, Stefanie Nicole (Nate) Godfrey, Aidan F. Rongaus, Ava Grace Rongaus, and Chase F. (Chani) Davenport; a great-granddaughter, Bella Mae-Grace; a sister, Marlene Perok of Michigan, a sister in-law, Jeanne Amatangelo of Erie; and numerous nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Ernest, Robert, and Joseph Amatangelo, Jr., and sisters Rose Lorenzo, Josephine DiSantis, Carmella DeSanto, Mary Louise Tirpak, and Dolores Forty.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the ANTHONY L. MASSAFRA FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICE INC., 40 Second St. Ext., Carroll Twp/Donora, PA 15033, (724) 379-6900, where the family will receive friends from 4 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2026.

Prayers will be recited in the funeral home on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at 10 a.m., followed by a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Andrew the Apostle Parish, Donora site.

The Confraternity of the Most Holy Rosary will recite the rosary for Faustina in the funeral home at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

Interment will follow at Mon Valley Memorial Park, Donora.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Andrew the Apostle Parish or to the Donora Senior Center in Faustina’s name.
