Francis Leroy Wisenberg, 79, of Cumberland, died Sunday, September 29, 2024 at UPMC Western Maryland.
Born March 2, 1945 in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Francis O. Wisenberg and Ruth (Wilson) Miller.
Leroy was a veteran of both the US Naval Reserves, and the US Army, having served tours of duty in Germany and Vietnam. He quit school a few months prior to his high school graduation to enlist in the Army. During his time in the service, he obtained his GED from the United States Armed Forces Institute.
Following his honorable discharge from the service, he was employed by the US Postal Service, having been a postal worker for 45 years.
After retirement, Leroy enjoyed hunting, fishing, gambling, and playing cards. He was a life member of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter #172, the American Postal Workers Union, AFL-CIO, and was a former member of Cumberland Moose Lodge #271.
He leaves behind his wife of 60 years, Jennifer (Jewell) Wisenberg; two children, Wendy Ridgeway (Kevin), and Lee Wisenberg (Jamie); grandchildren, Kenneth Bray (Cilla), Garrett Bray (Marisa), and Alyssa Varnadoe (Pierce); great-grandchildren, Brian, Faith, and Case; sister, Mary Robinette; nephew, Archie; sister-in-law, Kelly Cessna (Danny); and a special niece, Crissy.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., Cumberland, on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 from noon-1:00 PM.
The funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM with Pastor Tim Pratt officiating.
Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Solid Rock Independent Baptist Church, 12510 Corrigan Drive, Corriganville, MD 21524.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Kim Baker for her exemplary care, compassion, and understanding that she gave not only to Leroy, but also to his family.
