Gail M. Terpko

June 27, 1950 - May 17, 2025 (Age 74)

Gail M. Terpko, 74, passed away peacefully at home on May 17th in the company of her husband, and her two beloved dogs, Milo and Dyson.

Born to Charles D. Murphy, II and Eleanor Carr Murphy Gornik, Gail lived a life filled with joy, adventure, and deep connections to those around her. She was married to John Terpko for 28 wonderful years, building a life of love and shared experiences.

Gail dedicated her professional life to serving others. She worked at Heritage Hill Racquet Club for about ten years before spending 25 years as an Income Maintenance Case Worker for the PA Department of Public Welfare, retiring in 2010.

Gail's passions were many and vibrant. She was an avid tennis player and enjoyed her Card Club and bocce games with friends. She loved movies and traveling, especially taking international cruises. Throughout her life, Gail was passionate about her many Schnauzers, including Pooh, Kirby (an award-winning agility and therapy dog), and more recently, Milo and Dyson, who are also award-winning agility performers.

A true foodie, Gail was an exceptional cook and baker, especially known for her homemade marshmallows. She delighted in entertaining friends at home and hunting for treasures at garage sales. During summer months, she could often be found reading a book or magazine while floating in her pool. Her perfectly manicured nails and toes, often sporting quirky colors matching upcoming holidays, were her signature style. And no matter the season, Gail's preferred footwear was always flip-flops—even in winter.

Those who knew Gail will remember her quick wit, terrific sense of humor, and extraordinary kindness. As sharp as her tongue could be, she was equally soft-hearted. She maintained her vibrant smile and sense of humor until the end, approaching life with articulate passion and a vulnerable sensibility that endeared her to everyone she met.

Gail is survived by her husband, John Terpko; her children, Caren M. Palmaverde (Eric Van Hoesen) and Deena G.P. Kingston (Stephen); grandchildren, Lyla and Abel Kingston; siblings, Terry E. Hunt and Lee Ann G. Anderson (Bruce); nieces, Julie Murphy, Shannon Murphy, Stephanie Murphy, and Avery Hunt; in-laws, and members of the Terpko family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles D. Murphy, II and Eleanor and Frank Gornik; her brothers, Dennis Murphy and Charles D. Murphy, III; brother-in-law, Elmer Hunt; nephew, Michael McDonald; and aunt, Helen Thomas.

Friends and family will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 20th at the Kepple Graft Funeral Home Inc., 524 N. Main Street, Greensburg, 724-837-1201. The following day, private funeral services will be held at the funeral home. Private burial will follow at Westmoreland County Memorial Park in Greensburg.

Special thanks to Bridges Hospice for their compassionate care.

Instead of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Heal Animal Rescue in Youngwood, Pa.
