Gary Lee Isenhour

July 10, 1944 - January 8, 2026 (Age 81)

Gary Lee Isenhour, 81, passed peacefully from this life, leaving behind a legacy of service, devotion, and quiet strength. Born July 10, 1944, in Charlotte, North Carolina, Gary was one of seven children born to Cecil and Bennie Moser Isenhour. His early years were shaped by family, faith, and a strong work ethic that would guide him throughout his life.

A proud graduate of North Mecklenburg High School, Gary answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Air Force. He completed four years of honorable service, carrying with him the discipline, loyalty, and camaraderie that military life instilled.

Following his service, Gary pursued his lifelong calling to protect and serve his community. He attended the Charlotte Fire Academy and began a distinguished career as a firefighter with the Charlotte Fire Department. Over the years, he served with dedication, courage, and humility, ultimately retiring from CFD Station 29. His fellow firefighters were more than colleagues—they were brothers.

Outside of his professional life, Gary found joy in the simple pleasures that brought him peace. He loved golfing, fishing, and spending time outdoors. He was also a proud and active member of the Mint Hill Masonic Lodge, where he served as Grandmaster for many years, earning the respect and admiration of his lodge brothers.

On October 5, 1968, Gary married the love of his life, Mary Ellis Montueri. Their marriage was a partnership built on devotion, resilience, and unwavering support. Together they shared a lifetime of memories, joys, and challenges, always anchored by their deep love for one another.

Gary is survived by his wife, Mary; his son, Daniel Isenhour of Indian Trail, NC; and his sister, Brenda Purky. He is also lovingly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends whose lives were enriched by his kindness and steady presence.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Brian and infant son Christopher; and five siblings: Marshal Isenhour, Joseph “JD” Dwight Isenhour, Cecil “Rat” Isenhour Jr., Ken Isenhour, and Betty Jo Howie.

Gary’s family has entrusted the family of Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home with the honor of caring for him and for them. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, in the funeral home chapel at 4715 Margaret Wallace Road, Matthews, NC 28105. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM. Afterward, Gary will be taken in formal procession to Sunset Memory Gardens, where he will be entombed with full military honors in recognition of his faithful service to his country.

Gary will be remembered for his loyalty, his service, his love for family, and the quiet dignity with which he lived his life. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew him.
