George Clifton Loar

December 27, 1922 - November 30, 2019 (Age 96)

George Clifton Loar, 96, of LaVale, died November 30, 2019 at Sterling Care Frostburg Village.

Born December 27, 1922 in LaVale, he was the son of the late Richard J. and Eva I. (Porter) Loar.

He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ruth (Ogilvie) Loar, and two brothers, Richard and Ellsworth Loar.

Survivors include his nephew, Richard H. Loar, Jr. and son Jason; niece Mary Ann Barb and husband Charles, their children, Chuck, Gary, and Julia; godson, Homer Martz; and, special friend Joan Bosley.

He was a 1940 graduate of Allegany High School. Cliff also graduated from Potomac State College in 1948 having studied business.

He served in the U.S. Army during WWII.

Mr. Loar was retired from PPG Industries, where he was a purchasing agent. He was a lifelong member of Park Place United Methodist Church. Since 1955, Mr. Loar was a member of Potomac Lodge #100, A.F. & A.M. He also belonged to Salem Chapter #18, R.A.M.; Ali Ghan Shrine, where he served as Treasurer from 1976-1991 and was a member of the Motor Corps Unit; Past President of Tri-State Traffic Club; and, Past Secretary of Allegany County Chapter of Appalachian Thruway Association.

Mr. Loar donated his body to the Maryland Anatomy Board for medical research.

A memorial service and inurnment will be held at a later date.
