Charlotte, North Carolina - Mrs. Geraldine (Dean) Holmes Mingo of Charlotte NC passed away on March 9, 2022, at the age of 87 at Atrium Carolinas Medical Center after a brief illness. Funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, March 19, 2022, at Alexander Funeral Home located at 1424 Statesville Ave. Charlotte NC, Reverend Dr. Peter M. Wherry officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 12 noon at the funeral home.
Mrs. Mingo was born and raised in Newport News, Virginia and graduated from Warwick High School in 1951. She moved to Charlotte, NC and married Robert J. Mingo in 1957. In 1969, she became a member of Mayfield Memorial Baptist Church, where she sang on the choir and spent time as a member of the missionary board, pastor's aide and Xtra Years of Zest (XYZ) Ministry. She worked and retired from Owens-Brockway Glass Containers Inc. after 26 years of service in 1996. As a retiree, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends, attending church and travelling.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Robert J. Mingo; parents, Willie L. Holmes and Sadie Bell Holmes; brothers, Leonard Holmes and Lloyd Holmes; and sisters, Verna H. Williams and Alma H. Williams.
She is survived by sons, Grover G. Marrow (Laura) of Newport News, VA, Lamar R. Mingo and Gary J. Mingo, of Charlotte, NC; daughters, Beverly D. Mingo, Sandra M. Osborne, Fern D. Mingo, of Charlotte, NC; brother, Willie A. Holmes of New Haven, CT; grandsons Antwaine L. McCoy, Antonio R. McCoy, Derrick D. Mingo, Rashad M. Osborne (Nikki), Sherod D. Osborne, Carlos D. Pruitt, Shannon Marrow, Michael Marrow, Darius J. Mingo (Daniela); granddaughters, Keresha D. Mingo, Quaniesha D. Mingo, Sherae Y. Johnson; sister-in-law, Gertrude M. Wilson of Baton Rouge, LA; and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
