Gervacio Cruz Jr.
July 27, 1944 – February 27, 2026 (Age 81)
Gervacio Cruz Jr., 81, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 27, 2026, at home, surrounded by the love of his family through the blessing of hospice care. His life was one marked by devotion, hard work, deep cultural pride, and an unwavering commitment to those he loved.
He was born in Puerto Rico and grew up in Salinas, where the roots of his character were formed—strong, steady, and grounded in family and tradition. At the age of 16, he came to the mainland United States, beginning a new chapter that would shape the rest of his life. In New London, Connecticut, he met Santa Alicea, the woman who would become his lifelong companion. They married on September 3, 1966, and together built a family and a legacy that now spans generations.
Gervacio worked as a machinist for General Dynamics, a role he carried out with pride and dedication. Outside of work, he embraced the joys that made life rich. He was a devoted Boston Red Sox fan, cheering passionately for his team. He loved cooking—especially traditional Puerto Rican dishes—and was known far and wide for his unforgettable pork roast. Music filled his days, particularly the folk sounds of his homeland, and he enjoyed singing with a warmth that matched his spirit.
Above all, Gervacio cherished time with his family. His grandchildren remember him as a man who always greeted them with love, kisses, and a smile—never anger, never impatience, only affection. His presence was a source of comfort, joy, and stability, and his legacy lives on in the generations who adored him.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Santa; his children: Judith Cruz of Charlotte, Juan Antonio Cruz of Charlotte, Mildred (Mark) Cruz Renaud of Charlotte, Elvin Gervacio Cruz of Charlotte, and Cindy (Harold) Cruz Torruella of New London, Connecticut; 22 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; 35 great-great-grandchildren; and his siblings: Hector Cruz of Manchester, Connecticut, Georgina Martinez of Ponciana, Florida, Miguelina Sanchez of Port St. Lucie, Florida, and Juanita Cruz of Salinas, Puerto Rico. He is further survived by a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his son, Luis Alberto, in 2002; his parents; and his siblings Carmen Milagros Cruz, Angel Cruz, Reynaldo Cruz, and Alice Cruz.
Gervacio’s family has entrusted the family of Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home with the honor of caring for him and for them.
