Gladys McClure

Mrs. Gladys Yarbrough McClure, 95, of Rock Hill, SC, went to be with her Lord and Savior, on Friday, February 23, 2024 at Harbor Chase Retirement Home. Mrs. McClure is survived by her children, Vicky Walkup (Ed), of Fort Mill, SC, and Bruce McClure Jr. of Charlotte, NC. Grandchildren, Kelly Browning (Kevin), Burton Walkup, Clint Walkup (Sonia), Wendy Becker (Mike), and Nathan Walkup. Great Grandchildren, Grayson Browning, Brandon, Andrew, and Jesse Becker, Olivia, William, and Emma Walkup numerous nieces and nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 52 years Bruce McClure in year 2000, and her daughter Elaine Long in 2018 and son-in-law Jesse in 2012. She was also predeceased by her parents Robert and Daisy Yarbrough, as well as 7 brothers and sisters.

Mrs. McClure was born September 24, 1928 in Kannapolis, NC to her parents and grew up with her 7 siblings, and then moved to York, SC and graduated from White Rose High School 1945. After her graduation, she moved to Charlotte, and met her husband Bruce and was married in 1948. She became a plant assigner for Southern Bell in Charlotte, where she worked until 1984 and retired after 35 years. She enjoyed many family members and friends at her beach house at Sunset Beach in North Carolina and loved spending time watching Jeopardy on TV and was an avid Elvis Presley and Ray Charles fan. Mostly she loved her family as well as walking on the beach.

A celebration of her life will be on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at 12pm at Wilson Grove Baptist Church, 6624 Wilgrove Mint Hill Rd, Mint Hill, NC 28227, with her family receiving friends there one hour prior. Her burial will take place at Sunset Memory Gardens following her funeral service. In lieu of flowers, her family would like memorials made in Glady's name to Providence Care LLC, 500 Lakeshore Parkway, Rock Hill, SC 29730 or Wilson Grove Baptist Church.
