Glenn E. Simmons

September 8, 1938 – June 12, 2026 (Age 87)

Glenn E. Simmons, 87, of Lancaster, PA went Home to be with the Lord, with his wife and family by his side at Oak Leaf Manor North. Born in Lancaster, Glenn was the son of the late Elmer S. and Elsie (Herr) Simmons. He was the loving husband to Marianne C. (Rowell) Simmons for 67 years.

Glenn was a hard-working young man as he started at age 13 with a New Era paper route as well as teenage work at Yinger Sunoco and Garden Spot Motor Company. He graduated from J.P. McCaskey in 1956.

He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1958 and served until 1962 during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Specifically, he supported the U-2 program in Administration and Operations of the 4025th SRS and propulsion, ground power and orderly room for the 4080th. Great memories in his service with his wife, Marianne, by his side include President Eisenhower’s visit, a radiation sample wrapped in a lead sheet and sent to Isotopes in Nevada and a John Wayne visit .

Upon his return to Lancaster, Glenn would go on to work for Hershey’s Exxon, Raub Supply Company, Noland Company, Career Link and Lancaster County Office of Aging. Glenn lived by his motto of “carry the yolk” and he achieved that.

Glenn served twice as a Deacon at Zion UCC of New Providence. He loved the woods, working on cars and when he retired was fascinated by his ancestry, including maintaining graves in the family plot.

In addition to his wife, Marianne, Glenn is survived by his son Steven G. Simmons of Lancaster, and daughters: Diana M Wiker, wife of Doug of Lancaster and Glenda L. Fahnestock of Millersville. He will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren: Josh, Tara, Steven Jr., Melissa, Tyler, Anthony, Nick, Luke, Becky and Zac. His great grandchildren are Dominic, Myles, Paul, KJ, Hunter, Evan, Stephanie, Jahseh and Jeremiah. Glenn has many nieces and nephews. Glenn was preceded in death by his sisters: Gloria Spiese and Nancy Barton.

Family and friends are invited to attend Glenn’s Graveside Service to be held at Conestoga Memorial Park on Tuesday, June 9, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jonathan Yoder officiating. Military honors will begin the service.
