Gloria Hargett Griffin
October 16, 1949 - November 2, 2021 (Age 72)
Gloria Hargett Griffin, age 72, went to be with her Lord and Savior on November 2, 2021, at home surrounded by her beloved family.
Gloria was born on October 16, 1949, in Charlotte North Carolina, to the late Harvey Hargett and Magdalene Hargett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Wade Griffin and her brother, Harvey Hargett Jr. (“Butch”).
Gloria’s greatest loves were her Lord and living for Him and her family. All who knew her will remember her selfless care of others. This desire to serve led her into a career in nursing. After receiving her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Wingate University and earning her Master of Arts in Theological Studies from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, she served as a pioneering parish nurse through Presbyterian Hospital and was beloved by two inner-city congregations in Charlotte, Chapel of Christ The King and Faith Memorial Baptist Church. In her work as a parish nurse, Gloria focused not only on physical care, but emotional and spiritual care as well.
Outside of nursing, Gloria loved reading, watching and caring for birds, and especially spending time with her grandchildren. She had many sweet memories of trips taken with Alexis and Mason. Her family will remember her generosity of service, gifts, and time. We love her dearly and honor her.
Gloria is survived by her daughter, Crystal Powell of Matthews, North Carolina, her son Edward Powell of Los Angeles, California, her son Forrest Patterson and his wife Heather of Weddington, North Carolina, her grandchildren Alexis Patterson and Mason Patterson, and her sister-in-law Mildred Marze (and her husband Don).
