Harold Curtis Mills
April 9, 1943 - January 14, 2023 (Age 79)
Harold Curtis Mills was born April 9, 1943, in Thorpe, West Virginia to Paul and Ethel Mills, who proceeded him in death. A graduate of Gary District High School, Harold was known for his outstanding athletic ability on the basketball court. He also played football and baseball as well. His senior class voted him “Most Handsome”, “Most Athletic” and “Most Popular”.
After graduation, Harold enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country while participating on the basketball team while stationed in Korea. He was Honorably Discharged in 1961. He was introduced to the lovely Doris Agnew and was determined to make her his wife. On May 1, 1965, Harold and Doris were joined in marriage. Together, they raised their three children Patrice, Cynthia, and Curtis.
On a Christmas morning during service, Harold accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He took his decision seriously and began sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with others. Harold enjoyed all sports, but his passion was golf. He enjoyed playing with his brother Edgar, his nephew, and several cousins. Oftentimes, they would travel to different states to play various courses and in tournaments. He was inducted into the West Virginia Black Hall of Fame for his contribution to the Gary District High School Basketball team.
Harold loved his family and adored his wife who affectionately called him “Fats”. He was a member of Abundant Faith Church of God where he served as a deacon, finance officer, Sunday School teacher and a true servant of God. He faithfully attended the services until his health began to decline and it became too difficult. During his illness Harold was cared for by his daughter, Patrice and daughter-in-law, Christi.
Harold will be missed by many who remain to cherish the many memories. Harold was predeceased by his parents, his brothers, George Earl, James, and Edgar Mills, sisters, Juanita Craft and Jennie Wilson, and granddaughter, Cashera. He is survived by his wife Doris, daughters, Patrice and Cynthia, son, Curtis (Christi), grandchildren, Mandel, Elijah, Hadassah, Tashaya, Rashawn, Tyleia, Jayvon, Tyriq, brother, Maurice, brother-in-law, Rudolph Wilson, sister-in-law, Florence Marie and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 9:00 a.m. until time of service at 10:00 a.m. at Royal Kingdom Ministries, 1602 Woodland Avenue, Columbus, OH 43219. Interment: Northlawn Memory Gardens.
