Harry Surwald

Harry J Surwald of Westerville, died at age 86, just short of his 87th birthday. Harry was born on October 6, 1934 in East Saint Louis, IL to Casper and Pauline (Zayac) Surwald. He was a graduate of Southern Illinois University with a major in Accounting. He lived in Lima, OH where he was an accountant with Ford Motor Company, and after retirement, moved to Westerville to be close to family. He and his wife Delores, were married for more than 65 years. She resides at The Gables of Westerville. They spent their winter months in Mesa, AZ. Harry was very involved in volunteer opportunities including a probation officer, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Habitat for Humanity, The Furniture Bank, Sunshine Acres, and various committee positions in their Arizona and Westerville HOA communities. Harry was a member of Genoa Baptist Church in Westerville and Broadway Christian Church in Mesa. He is preceded in death by his sister Dorothy Bosworth. Harry's children are Jan Johnson (Bob) of Westerville and Greg Surwald (Lyn) of Phoenix. He and Delores have 8 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. Visitation will be held at Schoedinger Funeral Home, 6699 N. High St, Worthington from 5-7PM on Friday, September 17, and 9-10AM on Saturday, September 18 with a service immediately following at the same place.
