Herbert Fogle Sr

January 2, 1943 - February 15, 2024 (Age 81)

Herbert “Glenn” Fogle, Sr. went to be with his Lord and Savior on February 15, 2024, at the age of 81.

He was born in Charlotte, NC on January 2, 1943, at Memorial Hospital (now Atrium Main) to Virginia Hicklin Fogle and Barney S. Fogle. Glenn was raised in Charlotte along with his three brothers by his mother, grandmother and uncle. He attended Midwood Elementary, Eastway Junior High, and the new Garinger High School. Glenn loved and excelled at football and was on the 1960 NC State Championship team; was the number one pick for the 1960 North Carolina All-State football team; played in the Shrine Bowl of 1960 his senior year; and was recruited and played for the University of Houston. He also played for the Daytona Beach Thunderbirds, a semi-professional football team.

In Houston, Glenn surrendered his life to Jesus through Campus Crusade for Christ, which was a life changing event. He moved to Chattanooga and later graduated from Tennessee Temple Bible College in 1966 where he was elected president, his senior year.

Glenn met the love of his life, Jean, while in Chattanooga and they married in 1965. The couple shared 58 years together and raised four children. He served in full-time Christian work for 14 years, nine of which were in England. During that time, he took small groups of college students to Israel and throughout Europe to evangelize. Glenn also worked with the Fellowship Group based out of Washington, D.C., which organized Bible studies and speakers for UK Members of Parliament. His affinity with and love for the Jewish people led him to befriend and minister to the Jewish community in London’s Business District.

After his time abroad, Glenn returned to Charlotte and owned an insurance agency, but later began a masonry repair business called “Patchman,” which he ran for over 30 years.

He is survived by his loving wife, Jean Morgeson Fogle, his children: Glenn Fogle, Jr. and wife Esperanza of Atlanta; Andrew Fogle and wife Heather of George, South Africa; Lisa Fogle Phipps of Charlotte, NC; and Leslie Fogle Dunnegan and husband Blake Dunnegan of Charlotte, NC, and 12 grandchildren: Aleksandr, Fyodor, and Francesca Fogle; Joscelin, Jason, Luke and Emma Fogle; Christopher, Victoria and Grayson Phipps; and Nathan and Phoebe Dunnegan. He is also survived by his 2 brothers, George Fogle (wife Judy), David Fogle (wife Mary), and sister-in-law Nancy (deceased husband Gary Fogle).

The family will receive friends Thursday, February 22, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Hickory Grove Baptist Church (Harris Campus), 7200 E W.T. Harris Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28215. A celebration of life service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Glenn will be laid to rest at Sunset Memory Gardens, 8901 Lawyers Rd, Mint Hill, NC 28227.
