Herbert Royce Myers

August 27, 1936 - December 5, 2024 (Age 88)

Rawlings, MD--Herbert Royce Myers, 88, of Rawlings, MD passed from this life into the loving arms of His Heavenly Father for all eternity on December 5, 2024, at UPMC-Western Maryland from complications with severe pneumonia.

Born August 27, 1936, in Cumberland, MD, Mr. Myers was son of the late Herbert Franklin Myers and Julia Eleanor (Twigg) Myers. He was also preceded in death by a son-in-law: Bruce Hinkle.

Herbert was a graduate of Fort Hill High School Class of 1954. He met the love of his life while working at Murphy's Department Store, downtown Cumberland, MD when he was a dishwasher, and she was a waitress at the fountain. He joined the United States Marine Corps later that year and served until 1957, earning the rank of Buck Sergeant.

Upon return to Cumberland, he began working at Kelly Springfield Tire Company. He was employed there for 10 years and then began his career as a life-long trucker. He worked for several local companies including: Charleton Brothers, Z & M Motor Lines, Stroehmann Bakery, D.M. Bowman, and Quality Supplier. After his retirement in 1998, he worked for Johnnie Beckman Excavating and Oester Trucking. He was a member of Graceland Baptist Church and the Mountainside Marine Corps League.

Herbert is survived by his loving wife of almost 70 years (March 25, 1955): Fern Marie Myers; his daughters: Brenda Hinkle; and Beverly Cessna and husband Rodney. Also, his grandchildren: Jeff Cessna and Kyle Cessna and wife Darrah; and his great-grandson: Philip Cessna.

He was immensely proud of his grandsons and showed great interest in their lives from attending ball games and concerts to band performances to watching his younger grandson getting married via FaceTime from his hospital bed tears rolling down his cheeks. His first-born grandson named him Pop and it was a name that endeared him and was used by all. He was bursting with joy at the birth of his great-grandson and loved to hold him. Pop will always be remembered for his big bear hugs and his warm handshakes.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Graceland Baptist Church Building Fund, 5121 Frankfort Highway, Ridgeley, WV 26753

We would like to thank our sitters Cindy Lou and Mary Jo for the care given while Pop was still at home. Also, thank you to the staff in High Level Care at UPMC-Western Maryland for the compassionate care given while he was there. We also greatly appreciate all that have lifted us up in prayer during these difficult days. God bless you all.
