James L. Barr
October 30, 1925 - July 8, 2023 (Age 97)
James L. (Jim) Barr entered into the care of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, July 8, 2023.
Born October 30, 1925, in Luke, MD, he was the son of the late Virgil H. and Dorothy J. (Clayton) Barr. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Naomi; brother Robert Barr; sisters, Frances Mitter, Mildred (Midge) Folk, and Judy Moorehead.
He retired from the Westvaco Corporation in 1991 with 45 years of service. At his retirement, he was the supervisor over the sample room department. He graduated from Bruce High School with the class of 1944.
Jim served his country in the United States Army from 1950 to 1952 at Fort Benning, Georgia where he was a company clerk. He was a member of the Rawlings United Methodist Church where he served as the financial secretary for several years. He was also a member of the choir.
Jim was a member of the Rawlings Lions Club and served as its president for 14 years. He was also a member of the Grantsville Lions Club and the Four Sisters Golf Club. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America in Luke, Maryland and was a member of the Belles and Baugh’s square dance club.
Jim and his late wife, Naomi, had no children of their own; however, they hosted Fresh Air kids from New York City, in the summer for several years. Jim and Naomi enjoyed travelling, which included cruises to the Caribbean, Hawaii, Nova Scotia and other locations. They have travelled to Canada, Alaska, Florida, Jamaica, Yellowstone national Park and Pike’s Peak.
Jim is survived by a sister, Beverly Clem and husband, Garry; brother-in-law, Elwood Parks and wife, Becky, Norman Parks and wife, Rose; several nieces and nephews; special person in their lives, James Evans and wife, Rose.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Goodwill Retirement Center, assisted Living, and Nursing Home for their kind and compassionate care Jim received while a resident there.
Jim loved the lord and accepted Jesus as his savior.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 15205 McMullen Hwy, Cresaptown on Monday, July 10, from 5 p.m. till 8 p.m. A funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. with brother-in-law, Pastor Garry Clem, officiating.
Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens immediately following service.
