James Carson Misenheimer

James “Jimmy” Carson Misenheimer, 73, of Oak Island, North Carolina, passed away Saturday, September 5, 2026, at his home surrounded by family.

Jimmy was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on July 3, 1953. He was a son of the late Isam Roseman and Ethel Mae Blalock Misenheimer, both of whom were born in Stanly County, N.C. He grew up in the Derita Community in Mecklenburg County, N.C., where his family owned and operated the Mineral Springs Mobile Home Park and attended the Cole Memorial United Methodist Church.

Jimmy was a big dreamer, and during his school years attended Derita Elementary, Ranson Junior High School and West Charlotte High School where he graduated Class of 1971. After his brother Donald introduced him to the rodeo community, he found a deep passion for bull riding, and focused on becoming a Champion Bull Rider, winning championships in bull riding during the 1970’s and early 1980’s.

Continuing with his love of the rodeo and horses, his life journey brought him on the path to becoming a world renowned farrier. Jimmy loved shoeing horses and enjoyed spending time with his children and family attending horse shows and rodeos. During this time he also became an airplane pilot, and described himself as the “Horseshoe Pilot” traveling up and down the east coast with various centers of Horse and Equestrian communities.

Jimmy was a man of faith and loved his family and cowboy buddies. He spent his final years in Oak Island, NC, where he enjoyed the beach and loved fishing, camping, boating, and spending time with friends and family.

In addition to his parents, Jimmy was predeceased by his son, Isaac Andrew Misenheimer, buried in Mint Hill, N.C.; as well as his brothers and sister, Kenneth Roseman Misenheimer, buried in VA Cemetery in California, Carolyn Marjorie Misenheimer Prince, buried in Loris, S.C.; John Elwin “Johnny” Misenheimer, Sr., buried in Concord, N.C.; and Thomas Michael “Tommy” Misenheimer, buried in Locust, N.C.

He is survived by his three daughters, Jessica E. Mania of Charlevoix, Michigan, Shelby A. Misenheimer of, N.C., Katherine “Katie” Misenheimer of Asheville, N.C.; three grandchildren, Brianna (Shiloh), Aubree and River; one brother, Donald E. Misenheimer of Oakboro, N.C.; two sisters, Sylvia Misenheimer Grundler of Rising Fawn, Georgia, and Sharon Misenheimer of Jacksonville, Florida; and his many beloved nephews and nieces.

Pallbearers are as follows: Carson Misenheimer, Nephew; John E. F. Misenheimer, II, Nephew; Max Feldman, Friend; Chuck Koonce, Friend; Dave Ross, Friend; and Jack Towel, Friend.

A visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel in Mint Hill, NC. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.

Burial will immediately follow the service at Sunset Memory Gardens in Mint Hill.
