James Floyd Peters

James Floyd Peters, 83, of Irwin, passed away on Thursday February 6, 2025. Jim was born February 17, 1941 in Larimer, a son of the late Walter A. and Sarah A. (Brown) Peters. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Kurt D. Peters, and his brother, Walter W. Peters. Jim was a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania where he earned a Master’s in Education. He attended Ardara United Presbyterian Church and was a retired teacher for Norwin School District where he taught 9th Grade Science and high school Physics. Jim truly cared about people and did all he could to help those in need. After retiring, he volunteered as a Tax - Aide coordinator with AARP for 25 years in the Irwin, Penn Trafford, and Jeannette areas. He especially enjoyed fishing, golfing, attending his grandchildren’s activities, and vacationing in Myrtle Beach with his family. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Bonnie “Odeana” (Pyle) Peters; children Douglas J. (Cherie) Peters of Harrison City, and Erin (Dr. Ryan) Barnot, of Cortland, OH; grandchildren Sarah (James), Jared, Iain, Aidan, and Rylee; sister Ruth E. (John) Terhorst of Jeannette, and sister in-law Jane Peters of Ardara; also nieces and nephews. Friends and family will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, February 10, 2025, at the William Snyder Funeral Home, Inc., 521 Main Street, Irwin, 724-863-1200. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday in Ardara United Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Glenn Meyers officiating.
