James “Pug” G. Helms, 90, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2026, at his residence. He was born on March 15, 1936, in Union County, North Carolina, to the late Robert Helms and Mattie Paxton.
Pug worked as a truck driver and was known for his strong work ethic and dedication. He was married for 67 years to his beloved wife, Betty Helms, before her passing in 2021.
He is survived by his brother, Ray Helms of Monroe, NC; daughter, Helen Starnes of Indian Trail, NC; granddaughters, Betty (Bobby) Johnson of Belmont, NC, and Crystale Craig of Belmont, NC; and great-grandchildren, Jason, Fatback, Buzzard, and many others.
A visitation will be held on Monday, April 20, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home - Indian Trail Chapel. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home - Indian Trail Chapel, followed by a burial at Sunset Memory Gardens.
