Jamie Ruperto Espin

Jaime Ruperto Espin, 85, of Matthews, NC, passed away on January 9, 2024. Jaime was born on

January 21, 1938, in Quito, Ecuador to the late Victor Manuel Espin and Carmen Amelia Acosta. He

proudly served in the military in Ecuador and immigrated to America in 1959. He later became a US

citizen.

Jaime’s professional journey led him to a long and successful career in the textile industry. After

retiring Jaime found fulfillment in spending time with family and friends. He also enjoyed listening to

music from his native Ecuador and snacking on sweets. “Poppy” was especially loved by his

grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will always remember his quiet kindness.

Jaime is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Nancy Espin; son, Jeff (Sandra) Espin of North

Wilkesboro, NC; daughters, Teresa (Mark) Bordner of Charlotte, NC, Sonya Concha of Matthews,

NC, Katie (Corry) Hester of Matthews, NC; sisters, Blanca Espin of Charlotte, NC, Rosario (Luis)

Castrillon of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Jack Espin, Sarah Espin, Tiffany Hatcu, Savannah

Bordner, Tyler Bordner, Idalis Hester, Isaiah Hester; great-grandchildren, Brayden Hatcu, Kason

Hatcu, Malachi Trigg; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by both of his parents;

brothers, Carlos Espin, Victor Espin; sisters, Maria Inès Espin, Alicia Coello; and son-in-law, Eduardo

Concha.

Visitation to be held at Matthews Church of God on Saturday, January 13th at 12:00 followed by a

celebration of life at 1:00 with Bishop Rick Brackett officiating. Burial to follow at Sunset Memory

Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, Charlotte

Region. Arrangements are in the care of Heritage Funeral Home, Indian Trail.
