Jean Anne Liesau

August 1, 1930 - December 15, 2022 (Age 92)

Jean Anne Liesau, 92, of Hershey entered eternal rest on December 15, 2022 at The Middletown Home. She was the widow of Eugene (Gene) F. Liesau.

Born August 1, 1930 in Pottstown, PA, Jean Anne was the daughter of the late Henry R. and Myrtle G. (Tyson) Rawn of Pottstown.

In addition to her parents, Jean Anne was preceded in death by son, Eugene L. Liesau and sister, Doris M. Hohl.

She is survived by her daughter, Joan L. Maguire (Thomas J. III) of Hershey, PA; grandchildren, Rachel Liesau Goldstein (Cole Goldstein) of Moosic, PA, Sarah Blackburn (Timothy); and great-grandchild, Amelia V. Blackburn of Broomall, PA.

Jean Anne had a lovely soprano voice and sang in the Pottstown High School Band, Melody Maids and Eastern Star at various events across the state.

Trained as a hairdresser, Jean Anne went on a blind date and instantly fell in love with the tall, handsome Navy pilot. Shortly after, they married and moved to California, living in Long Beach before it became famous. They returned home to reside in Flowing Springs, Chester County, several years later and lived in the “red ranch house” on Route 100, designed and built by Gene.

Jean Anne loved to waltz and polka with her husband; they followed the Walt Groller Band. She in her dirndl and Gene with his handcrafted boomba stick. Known to “cut a rug” and jitterbug or waltz the night away at the Sunnybrook Ballroom. Flowers and gardening were a passion too. She studied floral arranging books and created many winning entries at the Elverson Flower Show. She found peace in Japanese style gardens and always had a well-tended one. Jean Anne collected antiques and was always up for treasure hunting.

Many great weekends were spent at Beech Island on the Susquehanna River with Joan and Tom. She loved pontoon cruises on the river, going to island parties, movie nights in the woods and watching fireworks from the deck.

Later in life her ventures took her to China, Egypt, Russia, Holland and Germany to name a few. She explored the world and sent “magic carpets” back home. Jean Anne rode an elephant, rafted on the Amazon River and walked on the Great Wall of China. For many years she travelled to Cancun, Mexico with dear friends and family. She always told her daughter “travel now, while you can.”

Jean Anne will be remembered as a kind, petite woman who had sparkling blue eyes and was generous with her smiles. She was a bit shy and didn’t like to pry, but she kept updated with her family by looking at Facebook and sending messages to relatives. Stylish, Jean Anne knew what she liked and would scrunch her nose up if she was not impressed. She loved her family and gatherings with all the relatives. Cousins remember the snowy winters tobogganing down the sloped hills trying to avoid being dumped into Beaver Run Creek. Her last joy was to see her first great grandchild Amelia recently born.

She lived her life well.
