Jean Ross Greene

March 20, 1934 - December 30, 2025 (Age 91)

Jean Ross Greene, 91, entered her heavenly home surrounded by her loving family on December 30, 2025, at McWhorter Hospice House in Monroe. Born March 20, 1934, she was the daughter of Sandy Caswell and Rosalind Gaddy Ross and was raised in Mint Hill along with her eleven brothers and sisters, where her lifelong foundation of faith, family, and hard work first took root.

As a child, Jean attended Philadelphia Presbyterian Church with her family. Her devotion to church life continued throughout her years—she worshiped and sang in the choir at Hickory Grove Baptist Church for over 40 years, and for the last 27 years was a proud member of First Baptist Church of Indian Trail. Her faith was steady, joyful, and lived out daily. She was also an active member of the Emmanuel Sunday School Class.

A graduate of East Mecklenburg High School, Class of 1952, Jean’s talents were evident early on. She was a member of the women’s basketball team and in her home economics class, a purple linen suit she crafted was featured in the Charlotte Observer, a moment she treasured. Her love of sewing continued throughout her life, even leading to her children, Dale and Melanie, appearing with her in a Singer Sewing Machine commercial on WBTV as she worked at her machine.

Jean lived for many years in the Grove Park community of the Hickory Grove area before later making her home in Union County. She worked first at Ford Motor Company and then at Celanese, where she spent 26 dedicated years in office and clerical roles before retiring.

Outside of work, Jean found joy in the simple, beautiful rhythms of life. She loved gardening, tending flowers, feeding the birds, and caring for the landscape around her. She kept an immaculate home—so clean, her family joked you could eat off her kitchen floor. She was a polished seamstress, loved being outdoors, and most of all, cherished spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great‑grandchildren, who were the light of her life.

On May 23, 1998, Jean married the love of her later years, Bennett Greene. They shared a wonderful life together until his passing on October 5, 2011.

She thrived in her 55 and older community during her final years and holds dear the many friendships that were made. The family is grateful for the “Breakfast Club” table, the staff and her caregiver Pam. We will carry the memories of birthday parties, Christmas gatherings, Ross reunions, beach trips, and weddings in our hearts forever.

Jean is survived by her children: Dale King of Peachland, NC, Beth Williams of Dallas, NC, and Susan (Rob) Rand of Waxhaw, NC; her beloved grandchildren: Jennifer (Matt) Nichol, Jessica (Jonathan) Summers, Jacob (Belle) Rand, and Jon Rand; and her great‑grandchildren: Cam, Colt, Josie, Jenna, Julia, Jace, and Fisher.

She is also survived by her sisters: Eloise Black, Betsy Bledsoe, and Sue Howell, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who loved her deeply. In addition to her parents and her husband, Bennett, Jean was preceded in death by her daughter, Melanie King; her brothers Conley, Dwight, Ralph, Lanny, and Hal; and her sister, Ann.

A celebration of Jean’s life will be held on Monday, January 5, 2026, at First Baptist Church of Indian Trail. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by a service at 11:45 a.m. Afterward, Jean will be taken in procession to her final resting place at Sunset Memory Gardens in Mint Hill.
