Jerome (Jerry) Kyle Gunderson

April 30, 1947 - December 29, 2021 (Age 74)

ROCK HILL – Jerome Kyle Gunderson (Jerry), Sr., 74, passed away on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at his home, surrounded by family and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at 12:00 pm, at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, with his son, Reverend Watson Matthews Gunderson, officiating. The service will also be available via livestream on the website, www.greenefuneralhome.net . Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park, Hollis Lakes Road. The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 10:30 am, and other times at the home.

Jerry was born in Eau Claire, Wisconsin on April 30, 1947. In 1950, he and his family moved to Rock Hill, SC. Jerry attended Winthrop Training School and he was in the last graduating class of WTS. Jerry graduated from Piedmont Community College, and was in the first graduating class at Winthrop College that included men. Jerry was a US Navy Veteran, serving in the Vietnam War; he served on the USS Perkins. Jerry loved beach music, shagging, record collection of 45’s, and playing them on his jukebox and his turntable. Jerry was the President of the Rock Hill Jaycees, twice in the late 1970’s. He worked in the collection business for 35+ years. He was a member of Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Ann and Howard Gunderson, and his wife, Dianne Matthews Gunderson.

Surviving are his wife, Sue Brown Gunderson, children, Jerome Kyle Gunderson, Jr. (Lainie) of Rock Hill, Ashley Gunderson Wise (Jeffrey) of Charlotte, NC, Watson Matthews Gunderson (Jocelyn) of Conway, SC; twin daughters, Whitney A. Boggs (Wesley) of Columbia, SC and Kayce H. Graupner (Scott) of Lexington, SC; his brothers, Tommy Gunderson (Susan) of Edgemoor, SC, and Dickie Gunderson (Katie) of Newport News, VA; his grandchildren, Taylor Grimes, Kylie Gunderson, Caroline, Jackson, and Jacob Wise, Zoe and Watson Gunderson, Avery, Graham, and Ann Ballard Boggs, and Benjamin and Oliver Graupner, and great-grandson, Cory.

The family sends a special thanks to the staff at Hospice and Community Care and also to Jennifer Robinson, Amanda, and Daniel, for the exceptional home care. His buddy, Bryant, “the Uber deliverer of many pies, milkshakes, and fries”, WTS classmates, and Jaycee friends. He had a caring heart and eye for people that were sick and especially veterans.
