Jessica "Jessie" Michelle Mitchell

YORK – Jessica “Jessie” Michelle Mitchell, 30, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, December 2, 2021 after an eight year battle with breast cancer. Jessie was an inspiration to so many throughout those years. She was loved and admired by everyone that knew her. She will forever be remembered for her incredible strength and the courage that she so graciously maintained while fighting cancer.

Jessie was the most kind hearted person. She always had a way of lighting up any room she entered. Her smile was contagious and her big beautiful eyes were known for telling a story. Despite the struggles she faced during her short time here on earth, she always put others first and never complained about her misfortune. She loved life and made the most of each day she was given. Her favorite quote was “she believed she could, so she did”, and that fit her perfectly. Jessie had dreams of traveling the world. Over the past several years she was able to visit many states within the U.S. Her adventures also led her to Iceland, London and France. Although she loved her many travels, her favorite of all was visiting DisneyLand Paris and Walt Disney World with her beautiful daughter Ella.

Faith was a big part of Jessie’s life. She loved God and lived her life through his word. She instilled that same love within her daughter. She was a firm believer in knowing where her eternal home would be, and found peace in that. Jessie loved her family and friends and enjoyed spending time with them. She loved music and loved to read. Jessie enjoyed binge watching Netflix and playing Yahtzee and other games with her daughter. She had a bubbly personality and her wittiness was one of the best parts about her. She loved to laugh and never met a stranger. Jessie was everyone’s sunshine. To know her was to love her.

Jessie was a graduate of York Comprehensive High School and then went on to obtain her Associates Degree at York Technical College. She was a Registered Dental Hygienist at Millwood Family Dentistry in Rock Hill prior to her metastatic diagnosis. She enjoyed working with others and loved her patients.

She is survived by the Joy of her life, her daughter, Ella Reese Cogan; her parents David and Judy Mitchell, of York; her sister, Sara Duncan (Aaron) of Hickory Grove; her brothers, Ethan Mitchell and Sawyer Mitchell of the home; her bonus sister, Kenley Parker of York; her grandparents, Clyde and Ann Mitchell of York, Johnny and Shirley Thomas of Clover, Kenneth and Dorothy Hull of Sharon; as well as her bonus parents, Tommy and Tracy Mitchell of York; and her bonus brothers, Jacob Mitchell of York and Wesley Mitchell of Houston. She was preceded in death by her great-grandmother, Patricia Powers; her uncle, Eugene Howe; and Ella’s father, Matthew Cogan.

The family will receive friends on Monday, December 6, 2021 from 6:30-8:00 pm at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Rd, Rock Hill, and other times at her home. Jessie’s Celebration of Life ceremony will be held on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Tirzah Presbyterian Church, 180 Tirzah Rd, York. Graveside service to follow at Grandview Memorial Park, 620 South Cherry Rd, Rock Hill.
