Jimmy Best

May 22, 1959 - January 10, 2026 (Age 66)

Jimmy Best, 66, of Charlotte, passed away on January 10, 2026, after a courageous years‑long battle with cancer. Through the compassionate care of Hospice of Union County, he was able to spend his final days in comfort and peace, surrounded by love.

Born in Charlotte on May 22, 1959, Jimmy was the only child of Eugene and Ruth Best. A lifelong resident of the community he cherished, he grew up in east Charlotte and graduated from Independence High School. He went on to build a remarkable 40‑year career with American Tire Distributors, working in sales. His coworkers became a second family, and he took great pride in the relationships he formed and the work he did.

Outside of work, Jimmy found joy in simple pleasures. He loved gathering around a poker table with his friends, sharing laughter, stories, and friendly competition. A devoted Dallas Cowboys fan, he rarely missed a game and enjoyed every moment of cheering on his team. Above all, nothing meant more to him than his grandchildren, Audrey and Cole, who lovingly knew him as “PawPaw.” His life was grounded in simplicity, gratitude, and the quiet blessings of family, friendship, and familiar routines.

Jimmy is survived by his son, Jason (Amanda) Best, and his beloved grandchildren, Audrey and Cole. He is further survived by numerous relatives and friends who will carry his memory forward. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Ruth Best.

Jimmy’s family has entrusted the caring staff of Lowe‑Neddo Funeral Home with his arrangements. Visitation will be held from 11:00 to noon on Thursday, January 15, at the funeral home, located at 4715 Margaret Wallace Road in Matthews. At noon, all are invited to join the family in procession to Sunset Memory Gardens for a graveside service honoring his life.

In tribute to his strength and in recognition of his battle with cancer, memorials in Jimmy’s name are appreciated to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org.
