June 9, 1928 - July 11, 2024 (Age 96)
John Clifford Davis, 96, of Southport, NC, passed away on July 11, 2024 in the SECU Hospice House of Brunswick. His graveside service will be held at 11 AM on Sunday, July 14, 2024 at Sunset Memory Gardens in Mint Hill, with Chaplain Mandy Singleton officiating.
Born June 9, 1928 in Mecklenburg County, NC, he was the son of the late Henry Vann Davis, Sr. and Willie Mae Beck Davis.
After honorably serving in the United States Army, Mr. Davis was involved in commercial construction in Charlotte and throughout the Southeastern US, and in raising a family. Honesty and work ethic were important values that he lived and shared. His memory was sharp until the end! He cherished memories of family, growing up, watching and detailing the changes and development of the Charlotte area. He loved and welcomed every visit of his family and especially enjoyed the grandchildren; the babies went straight to Grandpa! He loved sharing funny stories and making people laugh. He was generous, fiercely loyal and he would never give up on anyone! Above all, was his love and devotion for his wife "Dorothy", caring for her until her last day.
Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy “Dot” Jean Hipp Davis on July 15, 2021, his Mother and Father, his sisters Nora Roy, Sarah Simpson and Christine Alexander, and brothers Bobby, Henry, Vann, Charles, Beck and Brooks Davis, son-in-law Jim Wallace, as well as his grandchildren J. T. Faires and Katie Faires.
Survivors include eight children, Barbara Wallace, Sandy Parker, Cindy Martin (Ed), Jimmy Faires (Dawn), Steve Faires (Sally), John Davis, Scott Davis and Kym Gentle (Gary), two sisters Carolyn Wilkes and Doris Cunningham (Donald), 13 grandchildren, Leslie Helms, Jimmy Wallace, Jennifer and Matt Wilkins, Nick Martin, Jillian Herrmann, Britt Williams, Jake Faires, Greg, Beth and Josh Davis, Natalie and Addi Gentle, seventeen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
