John Drakeford

John Drakeford, 77, of Charlotte, passed away March 24, 2023 in his home. Born June 16, 1945 in Heath Springs, SC, he was the son of the late Junior and Hattie (Clyburn) Drakeford. He married the late Kathleen (Egleston) Drakeford on September 12, 1970 in York, SC.
A graduate of Hillside High School and Central Piedmont, John was the owner and proprietor of Drakes Auto Curb Service. He was also an Army Veteran who served his country during the Vietnam War, Purple Heart recipient and a member of the American Legion Post 262.
An avid cyclist, John enjoyed riding motorcycles, antique car shows, traveling, and drag racing.
Survivors include his children, John (Michelle) Drakeford and Joy Drakeford; grandchildren, Ta’Reen McMichael, Kiara Drakeford, Jordon Drakeford, Millicent Butler, Aaren (Kyndran) Brown, Arnold Haynes II, Dhaya Haynes and Brandon Haynes; great-grandchildren, Sonel Jr., Christopher, Ashaun, Alahna, Anthony, Arnold III and Luna; sister, Patsy (Homer) Drye; brothers, Sam (Jackie) Drakeford and Frank (Eleanor) Drakeford; brother-in-law, Bennie Sullivan; dear friend and caregiver, Joyce Johnson and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, John was preceded in death by his son, Saffron Wright; grandson, Sonel Williamson; sister, Sandy Sullivan and brother, Ronnie (Barbara) Drakeford.
Visitation 12:00 until 1:00 PM Friday, March 31, 2023 at Forest Lawn West Funeral & Cremation Service, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, NC. Funeral Service 1:00 PM immediately following the visitation at the funeral home. Burial in Sunset Memory Gardens, Mint Hill, NC.
