John B. Kepchia

October 7, 1924 - January 29, 2023 (Age 98)

John B. “Bob” Kepchia, 98, a lifelong resident of Greensburg, died Sunday, January 29, 2023, in Forbes Regional Hospital, Monroeville. He was born October 7, 1924, in Export, a son of the late George and Mary (Perich) Kepchia. John was a Navy veteran serving during World War II. Prior to retirement he had worked as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service. He was a member of St. Paul Parish, Greensburg. John was also a member of the Roosevelt Club, Hempfield Township since 1953, the American Legion Post No. 981, South Greensburg, and the SNPJ Club, Hempfield Township. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates fan and was an amateur ham radio operator. John truly enjoyed music and was blessed with musical talent. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth M. (Gaydar) Kepchia; three sisters, Ann Jablonsky, Mildred Gower, and Margaret Dubich; and two brothers, Paul Kepchia and Albert Kepchia. He is survived by his daughter, Michelle Lavelle; his son, John G. Kepchia (Jennifer Kane); son-in-law, Patrick Lavelle; four grandchildren, Cristina Lavelle (Richard Goga), Tyler Lavelle, Conner Kane, and Juliana Kane; two great-grandchildren, Graham Goga and Camilla Graham; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 4 to 7 PM Wednesday at the LEO M. BACHA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 516 Stanton Street, Greensburg. Prayers will begin at 9:30 AM Thursday in the funeral home, followed by a funeral mass to be celebrated at 10 AM in St. Bruno Roman Catholic Church, South Greensburg. Interment will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park with Full Military Honors accorded by the American Legion Post No. 981, South Greensburg Honor Guard.
