June 6, 1940 - June 22, 2023 (Age 83)

John Modar, Jr., 83, of Douglasville, GA (formerly of New Stanton), died Thursday, June 22, 2023 at VA Medical Center, Decatur, GA. He was born June 6, 1940 in Jeannette, a son of the late John and Margaretta (Enick) Modar. John served with the US Marine Corps and was a truck driver. He was a train enthusiast, member of Open Door Baptist Church, the NRA, the John Birch Society, the Republican Party and the Fort Allen Antique Farm Equipment Association. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his spouse. He is survived by his children, Michael Modar of Youngwood, Michele Jackson (Michael) of Douglasville, GA, James Modar (Antoinette) of Jeannette and Joseph Modar of Winston, GA, 5 grandchildren, Amber, Kim, Alexander, Lauren and Ariana, a great granddaughter, Makayla, 3 brothers, Lawrence Modar (Emma Lou), Dennis Modar (Joyce) and Richard Modar, stepchildren, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to a memorial service to be held at 12:30 PM Wednesday at Open Door Baptist Church, 970 N. Main Street, Greensburg, with Pastor Joshua Franklin officiating. Military honors by VFW Post #33 honor guard will be conducted at the conclusion of the service. Private interment in Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Hempfield Township. Flowers may be sent to the church or in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to a charity that supports veterans. Leo M.
