John W. Miller
November 20, 1934 - January 4, 2026 (Age 91)
John W. Miller, 91, of Osterburg, went home to be with the Lord, surrounded by his
loving family, on January 4, 2026.
He was born on November 20, 1934, in New Paris; son of the late Verwin (Bussie) and
Beulah (Shaulis) Miller.
On September 17, 1960, he married the love of his life, Charlotte L. Miller, who proceeded him in death on December 17, 2025.
He is survived by his two children, Deborah Callihan and husband James of Osterburg;
and Douglas Miller and wife Dedria of Osterburg; three grandchildren, Jody Callihan
and wife Christine of Silver Spring, Maryland; Tyler Miller and wife Sommer of
Osterburg; Alyssa Miller of New Paris; four great-grandchildren, Maeve, Gavin, Everlee,
and Ivy; sisters, Eileen Tanzey of Alum Bank, Barbara Slagle of Georgia, Pattsi Wiley of
Georgia; and brother, Sam Miller of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Charlotte, brother’s Charles, James, Ray
and infant Glen Douglas, and sister Charlotte.
John worked along-side his father doing carpentry and masonry work before serving in
the Army for two years in Germany, from 1957 through 1959. He could also be found
zipping around local racetracks in the #25 Dulls’ Auto Wrecker. John could fix anything,
and he worked for 33 years as the Maintenance Director of Winder Hospital. John
loved working with his hands and being outside, from hunting and fishing (he was an
exceptional marksman), to working on and painting cars, to growing the best sweet corn
along Bobs Creek Road. He was also quite the builder, having built his own home and
helping build, and being a lifetime member of, the Chestnut Ridge Bow and Gun Club.
John loved spending time with his family, and those great-grandkids sure made him
smile. He was a cherished husband, father, pap, and great-pap. John was affiliated
with the Bobs Creek Community Church.
The family would like to thank Dr. Patrick Gray and 365 Hospice, Nancy Williams’
Personal Care Home, and UPMC Home Nursing for all the care they gave him.
Friends and family will be received on Wednesday, January 7 from 4 - 8 p.m. and on
Thursday, January 8 from 10 a.m. until the hour of the funeral service at 11 a.m., all at
the J. Edward Blackburn Funeral Home, with Pastor Gary Blankley officiating.
Interment will be held at the Bedford County Memorial Park.
