November 19, 1940 - March 20, 2023 (Age 82)

Joseph M Kochis, Sr, 82, of Mount Pleasant PA, passed away Monday, March 20, 2023, at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh PA,from traumatic head injuries from a fall on March 6,2023. Joe was born November 19, 1940 in Armbrust, PA, Westmoreland Co. a son of the late Michael and Grace (Welsh) Kochis, He was the loving and devoted husband for 56 years to Virginia (Ginny) (Echard) Kochis, whom he married on February 25, 1967 in Winchester, VA. In addition to his wife, Joe will be sadly missed by his three children, Joseph M. Kochis, Jr. (Jody), Jeffrey A. Kochis (Emily), daughter Jaime M. Dengel (Jack) and his very special grandchildren, Owen, Claire, Dominic Kochis, Andy and Tommy Dengel, all loved and devoted to. He is survived by special cousins Mike Benyo, Norma Shallenberger, Rob Kowza and sisters/brothers-in-law Don and Shelby Echard and Barb and Larry Smith. In addition to his parents, Joe was predeceased by his brother Robert H. Kochis in 2013 and his special cousin Mary Grace. A graduate of Hurst High School 1958, Joe graduated from Greensburg Business School which led to employment at Allied Mills, Everson, PA in Accounting, then Plant Controller at their Ohio plant. Joe was in the PA National Guard Armored Tank Division from 1961-1967. In 1977, Joe and brother Bob formed a partnership at Broad Street Dairy & Distributor in So. Greensburg, PA for 32 years until their retirement. His hobbies were looking for and collecting antiques for his home, garage sales, cruising in his dream car - a 1955 red Ford Thunderbird, car shows, attending his grandchildrens' activities, listening to the oldies - especially Elvis, shooting pool with family, playing pinochle and Scrabble, couponing, bus trips. The family would like to thank the Kecksburg Volunteer Rescue Squad for their prompt and professional response to give aid to Joe and get him ready for his Life Flight to Pittsburgh. In honor of Joe, sit down and have Sunday dinners with your family - something that was important to him. Joe's family meant the world to him; he meant the world to us. We will miss you. RIP.
