Josephine Sofelkanik Obituary

Of Level Green, age 94, died on Saturday, May 18, 2024.

Josie was the beloved wife of the late Victor R. Sofelkanik, Sr.

She was the loving mother of Victor R. (Olivia) Sofelkanik, Jr. of CA, Linda (Nick) Novak of Level Green, Richad (Tu) Sofelkanik of Level Green and Michael (Erika) Sofelkanik of MD.

Josie is also survived by 12 grandchildren.

She was the sister of Loretta (Bob) McCorkel and the late John (late Marion) Comunale.

Josie was a retired Special Education Paraprofessional for the Westmoreland Intermediate Unit Seven. Besides her work and her family, Josie was an exceptional charitable contributor with her time and talent. She initiated the Champion of Art program for Claireview School in Greensburg. Josie also was a volunteer with the Community Thrift store in Murrysville and a delivery person for Meals on Wheels. Josie was a member and volunteer for her church, St. John Orthodox, and was a member and past-president of the St. John Altar Society. In 1984, she became an original member of the St. John Choir in which she loved to sing and worship for as long as she was able. For relaxation, Josie enjoyed a game of Bingo and a shuffleboard game with her friends.

All are welcome on Tuesday, May 28, from 2-4 & 6-8p.m. at Patrick T. Lanigan Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 700 Linden Ave. at Cable, East Pittsburgh, PA 15112, (412) 824-8800 where a Panachida will be prayed on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

A Funeral Service will be held in St. John Orthodox Church in East Pittsburgh on Wednesday, May 29, at 11 a.m.

Josie will be laid to rest in Penn Lincoln Cemetery.
