Joyce Appleman

Joyce S. Appleman, 87 of Zanesville, died 5:20 AM, Saturday, November 2, 2024, at Primrose Retirement Community in Zanesville. She was born Wednesday, November 4, 1936, in Zanesville the daughter of Albert and Edith (Starrett) Frick. She married Gerald “Gary” L. Appleman, Jr. on Sunday, March 25, 1956.
Joyce was a dedicated and loyal member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church where she was involved in the Fellowship Club, Ladies Aide, worked in the kitchen for the annual pork supper and many other events.
Joyce was a preschool teacher with Kiddie Kollege, and the receptionist with Rankin & Rankin for many years. She served on the board of the Helen Purcell Home, was a member of Mended Hearts and the Farm Bureau.
She assisted her husband, Gary in their business, Appleman Electric for many years. Joyce was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend who greatly enjoyed spending time with her family. Joyce was a happy and kind lady who always met you with a big smile.
Joyce is survived by three children, Cindy Derwacter, Lori (Mike) Lones and Kevin (Erin) Appleman; seven grandchildren, Toni (Matt) Tignor, Teria (D'Vante) Lewis, Mandy (Andy) Diehl, Josh Derwacter, Bailey Lones, Hannah Appleman and Kyle Lones; nine great grandchildren; Joyce's longtime friend, John (Brenda) Derwacter; many nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Marcy (Bill) Bickley and one brother-in-law, Richard Thomas.
In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her devoted husband of over 67 years, Gary Appleman; one son, Kip Appleman; one granddaughter, Faith Lones; one sister, Linda Thomas; one sister and brother-in-law, Nancy & Jack Mars, and one sister-in-law, and brother-in-law, Dolly & Gene Dew.
Friends may call from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, Friday, November 8, 2024, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 128 South Seventh Street, Zanesville, where funeral services will follow at 12:00 Noon, with Rev. Pastor Andrew Wilson officiating. Joyce will be laid to rest beside her beloved Gary in Zanesville Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 128 South 7th Street, Zanesville, Ohio 43701 in Joyce's memory.
