Joyce Kay Rhodes Ross, age 83, of Locust, North Carolina passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2023. (Formerly of Charlotte and Mint Hill)
From humble beginnings, Joyce, along with her late husband Gene, created a comfortable life for their family. She raised three children, providing all they needed, and then some.
Joyce kept a spic-n-span house and took great pride in her appearance. She loved to shop the sale racks at Belk and Dillard’s, and knew how to assemble a fashionable outfit on a budget.
Joyce had many hobbies. She enjoyed gardening, card games, shopping, square dancing, crochet, macrame, and loving on her pets.
She was a former member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church and Devonshire Baptist Church.
Joyce is survived by her sons, Jesse Eugene Ross, Jr. of Albemarle and Martin Boyd Ross of Charlotte; sister, Brenda Rhodes Johnston of Troutman; nephews, Scott Johnston, Duane Johnston, David Johnston, Michael West; niece, Michelle West Hebert; brothers-in-Law, Phillip Johnston, and Melton West; daughter-in-law Rose Reist.
She was predeceased by daughter, Jimmie Lou "Penny" Green; husband, Jesse Eugene Ross, Sr; mother, Willie Irene Rhodes; Sister, Wanda Rhodes West.
Family will receive friends Saturday, March 4, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Mint Hill, NC 28227. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 PM in the chapel. Joyce will be laid to rest at Sunset Memory Gardens, 8901 Lawyers Road, Mint Hill, NC 28227. Following the burial everyone is invited to a catered reception at McEwen Mint Hill Chapel.
