Karen L. Gabel, 81, of Darragh, PA, passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at Excela Westmoreland Hospital in Greensburg, PA surrounded by her loving family. She was born March 22, 1943 in Wilkinsburg, PA. Daughter of the late Andrew and Dorothy (Walker) Galomb. She graduated from Wilkinsburg High School, was an active member in the Darragh Civic Association and attended the former New Madison United Methodist Church in Darragh, PA. Karen enjoyed bowling and was on a bowling league for many years. She enjoyed gardening, had a large vegetable garden every summer and canned the produce. Karen was a wonderful mother. She took care of her children and the home while her loving husband held two jobs for many years to provide for the family. She loved camping at Cutty’s and Pioneer Park, was an avid romance novel reader, loved her cup of coffee, and enjoyed a good steak! In her younger years she worked at a butcher shop, McDonald’s, and a local gas station. She enjoyed going to the local drive-in and going swimming in public pools and in the Allegheny River. She is preceded in death by both parents and sister, Iris Moore. She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, William Gabel of Darragh, PA; daughters, Linda (Donald) Presock of Darragh, PA, Kathy (Jeff) Chobirko of Darragh, PA, Donna (JJ) Jenkins of Xenia, OH and Cindy (John) Longo of Darragh, PA; fifteen grandkids, seven great-grandkids and two sisters; Hariett Hartle (Gary) of Irwin,Pa. and Andrea Chernosky of Luxor, Pa.. Friends will be received from 2 – 4 pm and 6 – 8 pm on Thursday, June 6, 2024 at the Beatty-Rich Funeral Home Inc. Rt 136 Madison, PA 15663 – Ronald A. Rich Jr., Supervisor/FD. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, June 7, 2024 at the funeral home with Pastor Bruce Anthony officiating. A private interment will take place at the Westmoreland Memorial Park Cemetery in Greensburg, PA.
