Laura Joy Miller
March 12, 1988 - April 9, 2023 (Age 35)
Laura Joy Miller, 35, of Charlotte, died unexpectedly on Sunday April 9, 2023, in Charlotte.
Laura was born in Queens, New York, on March 12, 1988, the daughter of Howard and Barbara Chaiken Miller. When she was a year old, her family moved to Margate, Florida, and when she was 8, they moved to the Charlotte area. She attended East Mecklenburg High School and then went on to CPCC. Laura enjoyed helping and spending time with others. She worked for a time as a customer service representative for Home Depot on Albermarle Road and later, worked as a personal assistant to an elderly couple.
Also blessed to be able to work with her hands, Laura enjoyed crocheting, knitting, crafting and more importantly, sharing her creations with the neighborhood children as well as her family. Half of the fun was making these things, but the other half of the enjoyment for her was seeing how sharing with others could make them feel better. Laura also liked caring for animals, oftentimes feeding and looking after many of the abandoned cats in her apartment complex. She was also a fan of butterflies.
Most of all, the time spent with family and friends was where Laura enjoyed life the most. Laura was like sunshine, a bright spot of kindness in a dark world. She was one of those whom you were blessed to have met or known for her kindness and caring way, whether for minutes or for a lifetime.
Laura is survived by her childhood best friend and partner, Marquese Mitchell; her mother Barbara Miller of Charlotte; her father, Howard (wife Galina) Miller of Concord; her sister, Suzanne (husband Tomas Mena Rodriguez) Mena; and four nieces and nephews, Julia, Mateo, Matias and Matai. She is further survived by her uncle, Michael Chaiken; her best friend, Stephanie Theiker; her furry children, and numerous other relatives and friends.
Laura’s family has given the family of Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home of Mint Hill the privilege of caring for her and for them. Her final place of earthly rest will be Sunset Memory Gardens in Charlotte.
