LaVerne A. Lockard
July 14, 1933 - November 8, 2022 (Age 89)
Laverne Audrey Lockard, 89, of Everett passed away on Tuesday, November 8, 2022.
She was born on July 14, 1933; daughter of the late Marshall and Grace (Wright) Messersmith.
On December 22, 1954 she married James Lockard, who proceeded her in death. She was also proceeded in death by son, Dennis Lockard and beloved cat, Goobie.
She is survived by her daughter, Valley, wife of Donn Reyan, Sr of Everett PA and son, Joe Lockard, Bedford; Grandchildren, Donn Reyan Jr and wife, Tammy of Everett, Jennifer, wife of Vaughn Hillegass, Bedford, and Daniel Reyan Sr and wife, Dena of York, PA; Great-Grandchildren, Sara Reyan, Cory Reyan, Daniel Reyan, Jr and wife, Lydia, Nicholas Reyan, Paxton Sipes, and Xavier Hillegass; Great-Great-Grandchildren, Nason, Zeth, Carli, Emma, Carter, and Damien.
Laverne loved spending time with her family and taking photographs to capture the memories. She loved all of God’s creatures and could never refuse to feed a stray animal and adopted many cats over her lifetime. Laverne also was an accomplished musician that played many instruments, wrote poetry, and loved to play and sing gospel hymns.
Laverne dedicated many years to volunteering in local nursing homes, never wanting anyone to feel alone, she even created custom homemade Christmas cards for decades to ensure that everyone in the homes had a small gift at Christmas time.
To all who knew her, Laverne was a woman of great Christian faith. She loved to share the message of Jesus in song, scripture, drawing, in her poetry, and through the life she lived serving others.
A private funeral will be held, and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
