Lawrence Thomas Tracy
April 22, 1940 - November 7, 2022 (Age 82)
Lawrence “Larry” Thomas Tracy, 82, of Cumberland, MD went home to his Lord and Savior on November 7, 2022 surrounded by his daughters and granddaughter as they prayed and sang his favorite hymns.
Born April 22, 1940, in Grafton, WV he was the son of the late Frank and Dorothy (Nestor) Tracy. He was also preceded in death by his first wife of 28 years and mother of his children Janet (Watts) and his second love and wife of 25 years Eunice (Halverson).
Larry was a 1958 graduate of Fort Ashby High School. Upon graduation from high school, he entered the US Navy as a Seabee followed by the Army Reserves as a Military Police for a total of 20 years of military service. Once he and his family returned to this area, he became a Maryland State Trooper where he served from 1967 until 1988. He and his first wife Janet were very active in foster care in the community, opening their home to dozens of children. After the death of Janet, he moved to Arlington, VA to be with his second wife, Eunice. While there, he began working at the Pentagon as a DOD police officer and was a true hero on September 11, 2001 with his rescue and recovery efforts.
He is survived by his children John Tracy of Berkely Springs, WV, Larnet Lancaster and husband Jack of Little Orleans, MD, Rebecca Williams and husband Dave of Ridgeley, WV, Sara Kerr and husband Jeff of Jacksonville, NC, and Jennifer Walker and husband Bill of La Vista, NE. 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, two brothers Lester and Frank Tracy, and a sister, Marie Wagoner and husband, Orvin of Fort Ashby, WV.
Although Alzheimer’s tried to steal Larry’s memory, he has provided his family and friends with a lifetime of wonderful memories that we will forever hold on to.
A viewing will be held at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, MD, on Thursday, November 10 from 4-6 P.M. A celebration of life service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, November 11 at 1:00 P.M. with a viewing one hour prior to services and a graveside service to follow. Pallbearers will be his grandsons and great-grandsons- Thomas “TJ” Mills, Mark Lancaster, JC Lancaster, Jeremy Lease, LJ Lancaster, Owen Lancaster, Zach Scarlett, and Ian Saville.
