Leland J. Christensen, 85, of Nashport, died Saturday evening, January 14, 2023, at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center, Cambridge, Ohio.

Born November 6, 1937, in Walnut, Nebraska, he was a son of the late Bennett and Mary (Block) Christensen Sr. Lee was a United States Army Veteran and was a radio man during the service. He retired after 30 years from the Newark Air Force Base in Aero Guidance & Metrology Center. Lee was a member of Nashport-Irville United Methodist Church and loved doing jigsaw puzzles with his wife, Mary. He took great pride in mowing and maintaining his yard, John Deere tractors, reading Western books and tinkering with woodworking. When traveling to Alaska, Lee was invited to attend the grand opening of the new Caterpillar and John Deere Facilities. It was one of his greatest joys.

Surviving is his wife of 60 years, Mary Louise (Fairall) Christensen, whom he married May 1, 1962; a daughter, Lori (Tracy) Dunbar of Nashport; a granddaughter, Sara Somers; great granddaughter, Ellie Staley and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Katie Christensen, who died December 2007; seven siblings, Geraldine Ireland, Alta Lyon, Bernice Brower, Elmer Christensen, Lauraine Christensen, Lauretta Risse and Bennett Christensen Jr.; a sister-in-law, Dixie Turner and nephew, Dan Satterfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Muskingum County Veterans Service, 225 Underwood Street, RM 500, Zanesville, Ohio 43701 or a charity of your choice.

Friends and family may call Tuesday, January 24, 2023 from 4:00pm- 8:00pm at the Frazeysburg Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 110 W. Third Street.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at 12:00pm at the funeral home with Pastor Bob Beyer officiating.

Leland will be laid to rest with military honors at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery, Zanesville.
