Lesley was a hardworking, energetic man who dedicated his life to providing for and caring for those he loved. Raised in Greenville, North Carolina, he spent his younger years farming tobacco and vegetables, learning the values of hard work, perseverance, and dedication that would guide him throughout his life. He graduated from Chicod High School in 1949 and soon answered the call to serve his country.
Lesley proudly served in the United States Army, where he courageously fought during the Korean War. On November 18, 1954, he joined the United States Air Force, where he continued his distinguished military service and later served during the Vietnam War. After 20 years of honorable service, he retired from the military on September 30, 1971, achieving the rank of Technical Sergeant (TSGT). During his service, he taught electronics and specialized in repairing aircraft radio and radar equipment. His military journey carried him across the world and throughout the United States, including assignments in Thailand and Hawaii. In 1962, Lesley married the love of his life, Linda Sue Mason Dixon, with whom he shared many years of love and devotion until her passing in 2019. Together, they built a life centered around family, hard work, and caring for others.
After retiring from military service, Lesley opened Dixon’s Bargain House & TV Repair in Monroe, North Carolina, in 1974. Through dedication and hard work, he faithfully served the community for 42 years, remaining in business until 2016 when signs of dementia required him to step away from the work he loved.
Lesley never met a stranger. Known for his warm personality, sense of humor, and friendly spirit, he had a remarkable way of making everyone feel welcome. He was generous to a fault, always wanting to make sure those around him were cared for and never went without. Whether sharing a meal, offering help, or simply lending a listening ear, Lesley touched countless lives through his kindness. To many, his giving heart and caring nature made him feel like family.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, William Henry Dixon and Daisy Evans Dixon; his wife, Linda Sue Mason Dixon; his son, Lesley Tony Dixon, and his brothers, Dewey Dixon, Bernice Dixon, Ray Dixon, William Davis Dixon, Roland Dixon, and John Thomas “J.T.” Dixon.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving children: Linda Dixon Johnson and husband Harold, Kenneth Scott Dixon, and Kevin Ray Dixon. He also leaves behind cherished grandchildren: Krystal Johnson, Jacob Johnson, David Dixon, Katherine Dixon, Will Dixon, ShyAnn Dixon, and Kenny Webb, along with many beloved extended family members and dear friends who will forever treasure the love, wisdom, humor, and generosity he shared.
Following the passing of his beloved wife, Sue, in 2019, Lesley made his home with his daughter, Linda, and son-in-law, Harold, who lovingly cared for him until his passing.
Though Lesley’s earthly work is complete, the lessons he taught through hard work, service, generosity, and kindness will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
