Lester Sherrill

October 9, 1952 - March 9, 2025 (Age 72)

SSG Lester Sherrill made his journey from this world on March 9, 2025, at the age of 72, in the comfort of his home in Fort Mill, South Carolina. Born on October 9, 1952, at the York County Hospital in Rock Hill, South Carolina, Lester dedicated his life to service and family. A graduate of Fort Mill High School, class of 1970, he then proudly served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army, beginning his military career at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. His commitment to service did not end with his retirement from the military; he continued to serve his community through a fulfilling career with the United States Postal Service, from which he also retired. His life was a testament to the principles of duty and honor.

Lester was a loving husband to Helen Sherrill and cherished father to Kim Sherrill, Angie Sherrill, and Step Daughter Jawanda Johnson. His legacy lives on through his beloved grandchildren: Elise Dixon, Lylah Weanquoi, Maleiah Weanquoi, Jasiah Weanquoi, Judah Weanquoi, Lukah Weanquoi, Donald 'Dee' Riley, Dapree Johnson, and D'Marr Stearns. He is also survived by his sisters Lenora Sherrill and Viola Sherrill. He was preceded in death by his parents, Watkin and Sedelia Sherrill; his sister, Shirley Sherrill Barr and his brother, James Sherrill.

Lester was a passionate football fan, who especially loved cheering for the Carolina Panthers. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life—watching his favorite television shows, savoring good food, and, most importantly, spending quality time with his grandchildren. These moments brought him immense happiness and were a source of pride and joy throughout his life.

Lester’s memory will be treasured by all who knew him. His unwavering dedication to family, his service to his country, and his warm spirit will continue to inspire those he leaves behind. May his legacy of love and commitment bring comfort to all who mourn his passing.
