Lois J. Schilling

August 16, 1949 – August 6, 2026 (Age 76)

Lois Jane Schilling, age 76, of Canal Winchester, passed away peacefully at her home on August 6, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was born August 16, 1949, in Wheeling, West Virginia, to the late Lora Roberts and Edward Jobes.

Lois retired from U.S. Bank and was a devoted member of her church community. She served as an Offertory Counter and as President of the Altar Rosary Society for two years. She also generously gave her time to others, helping the St. Vincent de Paul Society serve dinners to men on Carpenter Street and preparing toiletry packages for the Van Buren Shelter.

Lois was generous, funny, witty, caring, thoughtful, and never afraid to speak her mind. She loved spending time with her family, friends, and pets, and she found great joy in gardening and feeding the birds and squirrels. To those who knew her on Sarwil Drive, she was affectionately known as “The Squirrel Lady.” Her love for animals was evident in the way she cared for her pets, believing that nothing was ever too good for them.

Above all, Lois cherished her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and the best friend and devoted wife to her husband of 59 years. Her kindness, humor, generosity, and unforgettable personality will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, John David Schilling; daughter, Pamela Ave; son, Brian (Michelle) Schilling; grandchildren, Ethan (Amy) Ave, Zoe (Jake) Baker, Evelyn (James) Yasnowski, Samantha Schilling, Sarah Schilling, and Frances Schilling; great-grandson, Zane Michael Baker; siblings, Edward J. Jobes Jr. and Lora Elaine Richards; and loyal and loving cat, Red.

Visiting hours will be held Thursday, August 13, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Dwayne R. Spence Funeral Home, 650 W. Waterloo St., Canal Winchester, Ohio 43110. A Funeral Mass will be held the following day, Friday, at 11AM at Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish, 5170 Winchester Southern Rd., Canal Winchester, Ohio 43110, with Fr. Brian O’Connor officiating. Interment will follow at Franklin Hills Memory Garden.
