Loren M. Hittle

August 11, 1936 - June 23, 2025 (Age 88)

Loren “Max” Hittle, 88, of Dresden, passed away Monday evening, June 23, 2025.

Born August 11, 1936, in Dresden, he was a son of the late Ralph & Myrtle (Spiker) Hittle and a 1955 graduate of Jefferson High School. Max was a lifelong farmer and retired from Rockwell after 30 years as a machinist. He was a faithful member of Dresden United Methodist Church, Ohio Farm Bureau, the Cattlemen's Association, Ruritan Club, and an active member and advisor of 4-H for over 40 years. Max had a way to make people smile and laugh. It was common to hear him call everyone “George”; he made friends young and old very easily. He was often referred to as ornery in a good way. Much to his children’s and grandchildren’s chagrin, no matter where he went, Max would search and find someone he knew. He dearly loved Bess and their family and was so proud of each of them.

Surviving are his three children, Scott (Susan) Hittle, Bonnie (Glenn) Gamary, and D.J. Hittle; four grandchildren, Jarrod (Ashley) Hittle, Justin (Brie) Hittle, Kirsten Gamary, and Delanie (Jason) Rock; five great grandchildren, Ayla, Alair, Quentin, Shepard, and Emmett; two sisters-in-laws, Kathleen and Sylvia McCutcheon and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Bessie “Bess” Lee Hittle, who died May 16, 2024; and a brother, Leslie Zane Hittle.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests a memorial contribution that will provide scholarships to local 4-H members. Contributions may be made to the Muskingum County 4-H Endowment Fund at Secure Processing Center, P.O. Box 736096, Chicago, IL 60673-6096 or given online at go.osu.edu/musk4hendowment. Please indicate Fund #605084, in memory of Max Hittle with your donation.

Family and friends may visit 2-4pm and 6-8pm, Monday, June 30,2025, at the Dresden Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 714 Main Street, Dresden.

A Celebration of Life funeral service will be held at 10:00am, Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at the Dresden United Methodist Church, 1014 Main Street, Dresden with Pastor Dan Wells officiating.

Max will be laid to rest with his wife, Bess, at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery, Zanesville.
