Lucille Varsafsky

Lucille Evangeliste Varsafsky, 87, passed away Thursday, August 27, 2026, in

Independence Health Latrobe Hospital. She was born November 1, 1938, in

Jeannette Pa., where she lived her entire life until she moved to Greensburg in

2021, and recently became a resident of Barnes Place Assisted Living in Latrobe.

Prior to her retirement, Lucille was employed for over 33 years for the Jeannette

District Memorial Hospital, and the Hospital’s Foundation. She was a life-long

member of the Ascension Church Jeannette, and its Rosary Altar Society, delivered

Meals on Wheels for several years and also served as Secretary of the JDMH

Retiree Association. Recently she enjoyed playing Mexican Train with neighbors

and cards with her forever friends in Canasta Club. Lucille was most happy

spending time with all the kids, playing bingo, and going to the casino with family

and friends.

Lucille was predeceased by her parents Peter and Ruth (Steck) Evangeliste; her

husband Martin “Marty” Varsafsky in 2015; a daughter Debra Zelenak; a grandson Roccie J.

Ross, III; and sisters, Dot Sarsfield and Ruth Ann Deluzio.

She is survived by her children, Tawnie Stahl, (Rob), Marty Varsafsky (Jamie),

Susan Ross, and Dade Varsafsky; her son-in-law, Bob Zelenak; grandchildren,

Krysta Cornelison (Dave), Jessica Howard (John), Bobby Zelenak, Luke Zelenak

(Lori), Angela Thomas (Adam), Abigale Ross, Dade D. Varsafsky, Alec Varsafsky,

Nate Hazlett (Jessica), and Garett Hazlett (Maryssa); great grandchildren, John

Michael Krajc, Nash Cornelison, Ivan and Levon Howard, Rylee Lou and Logan

Thomas, Quitin and Nolan Hazlett, and Graham and Isla Hazlett. Lucille is also

survived by her brother Peter Evangeliste, and sister-in-law Brenda Evangeliste.

Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm Sunday in the John V. Graziano

Funeral Home Inc., 228 North 2 nd St. Jeannette Pa. 15644. The Ascension Rosary

Altar Society will pray the rosary 3:45pm Sunday in the funeral home. A funeral

mass will be celebrated 10am Monday in the Ascension Church with Fr. Job Foote,

OSB as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Westmoreland Co. Memorial Park,

Hempfield Twp.
