Maceo Jones
May 23, 1940 – September 5, 2026 (Age 86)
Mr. Maceo Jones of 1327 Odgen Road, Rock Hill, South Carolina, entered eternal rest on Saturday, August 5, 2026. He was born in Chester County, to the late Lovett Jones, Sr., and Luberta Gilchrist Jones.
Maceo was preceded in death by his parents, five siblings, Charles Williams Jones, Robert Henry Jones, Geneva Jones Hyatt, Willie Alexander Jones, Lovet Jones, Jr. and daughter Martha S. Jones.
He began his education in the public school system of Chester and York County. He graduated from Emmett Scott High School (Rock Hill, SC) in 1959. While in high school, he met the love of his life, the former Doshia Eva Davis, and married his friend and soul mate in 1961. They have been married for 64 years.
He retired from Duff-Norton Company, Charlotte, NC in 2002 as a Tool and Die Maker, after 40 years. After retirement, he was employed with York County Council on Aging in the Transportation Department for eleven years. Maceo enjoyed helping those he encountered on his Access van.
Maceo joined Flint Hill Baptist Church in 1962 and was continued active until his illness. He was active in several church affiliations: Deacon Ministry, Hymn Choir Leader, Men’s Choir, Voices of Inspiration, Past Gospel Choir Leader (55years), Sunday School, Bible Study, Food Pantry, Vacation Bible School, Chairperson, Benevolence Committee (1998-2009), Committee for building the present Sanctuary, Committee on burning FHBC mortgage (April 14, 1966). Recognition/Awards: Certificate in building FHBC Sanctuary (April 14, 1966), Duff-Norton Company, FHBC: Hymn Choir and Gospel Chorus; Civic/Community Organizations: Menzel Temple #35, Former Board Member of FHBC Adult Day Care.
Maceo was a soft-spoken person who was always willing to help others in need. His singing was powerful and inspirational which brought joy to many congregations and other gatherings.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and family and is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Doshia Eva Jones; daughter, Rev. Cynthia Gaston; brother, Edward Louis Jones, (Rose); sister, Catherine Jones; all of Rock Hill, SC; special niece, Elma M. Shannon, Columbia, SC; sister-in-law, Janice Ruth Jones, Rock Hill, SC; brother-in-law, Bill Davis (Elise), Charlotte, NC; two grandchildren, Rosalyn Jones (Mario), Thomas Jones; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; special godchildren: Tish McCullough, Shelitha Cole Morton, Jackie Wilson and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
