Madie Carelock Godwin

Madie Carelock Godwin, 87, of Mint Hill, passed away Wednesday, July 7, 2021.
Madie was born August 10, 1933 in Union County to the late Bascom Julius Carelock and the late Mary Jane Carelock. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Roy Lee Godwin; daughter, Lisa Townsend; brothers, Julian, Julius and Cromer Carelock; twin brother, Brady Carelock; sisters, Essie Edwards and Eloise Little; and son-in-law Keith Gardner.
Memaw (Madie) grew up on a cotton farm and enjoyed playing basketball throughout her school years. She was known as “Hook Shot Carelock". Madie and her late husband, Roy were the owner of their own printing business Mint Hill Specialty. After retiring, she passed it on to her son, Jeff Godwin. Madie’s most favorite thing was to spend time with her family. She was a remarkable woman who loved Jesus and loved her family. Memaw will be missed by all who knew her.
She will Lie In State from 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM, Thursday, July 15, 2021 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland, 13575 Broadway Avenue, Midland. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM - 1:30PM, Friday, July 16, 2021 at Sunset Memory Gardens, 8901 Lawyers Road, Mint Hill. The graveside service officiated by Sammy Case will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens in Mint Hill.
Survivors include daughters, Deloris Gardner and Teresa (David) Baucom; her son, Jeffery (Beth) Godwin; son-in-law, Dean Townsend; grandchildren, Chris (Kim) Gardner, Tracy (Matt) Kent, Katie (Duncan) Belo, Jason (Christy) Townsend, Amanda (Brad) Harvell, Justin (Courtney) Godwin, Heather (Kurtis Kovel) Barton, and Christa (Chris) D'Abramo; 16 great-grandchildren; and many cherished friends who were like family.
