Margaret Irene Roberts
October 21, 1942 - July 9, 2025 (Age 82)
Margaret “Irene” Roberts was 82 years old when she went to be with Jesus on July 9, 2025. She was born on October 21, 1942, in Knoxville, Tennessee, where she was raised. She was preceded in death by her parents, Conda Mitchell Robinson & Ethel Mae Berry Robinson. She is survived by her children: Diana Miles (Mike), and Glen Roberts; and her grandchildren: Desnee Miles, Drew Miles (Isabella), Mason Miles, Mark Miles, Rebecca Roberts, Mitchell Roberts; and her great granddaughter, Hartley Miles. She was preceded in death by her siblings: Dr. James Conda Robinson, John Harley Robinson, and Richard Robinson and is survived by her siblings: Marie Jackson, Alice Hurst, and Jerry Robinson.
At just 14 years old, Irene received a national award from the National Guild of Piano Teachers. Her love for music continued throughout her life as she played faithfully for her church and nurtured a love for piano in many of her students, helping them grow and expand their horizons.
Irene deeply loved her family, her many friends, and her Lord Jesus. She found rich community in her church’s singles group, where lifelong friendships were formed through shared encouragement during life’s struggles and celebrations of its victories. She also gave generously of her time, volunteering regularly at a shelter for battered women and their children, where she coordinated toy donations during the holidays. In recognition of her service, she was honored with General Electric’s prestigious Gerald L. Phillippe Award for Community Service.
As a mother, Irene was loving, creative, and resourceful—always ensuring her children had what they needed. Through her example, she instilled a strong work ethic, a commitment to keeping a clean and welcoming home, and a heart of compassion. Most importantly, she taught her children to walk in the ways of the Lord.
To her grandchildren, Mimi was a source of endless joy and adventure. She had a special gift for turning simple moments into cherished memories, often creating fun-filled days with little more than imagination and love. Whether it was feeding ducks at the park, exploring the zoo, having noodle fights, splash days at the pool, or venturing to Dollywood, she made every outing feel like an adventure--no big budget required.
A family graveside celebration of Irene’s life will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Mint Hill, North Carolina.
