Margaret Stair

August 1, 1926 - July 3, 2024 (Age 97)

On July 3, 2024 at the age 97 years and 11 months, Margaret Clemons Lucille Armstrong Stair passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior.

Lucille was the daughter of the late Clement R. Armstrong and Hazel L. (Adams) Armstrong.

Lucille was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Earl Stair. As well as seven brothers, John Armstrong, Neil Armstrong, Glen Armstrong, Harold Armstrong, Jim Armstrong, Brownlee Armstrong, and Bill Armstrong and their wives.

Lucille is survived by her two sons and daughter in laws who were her pride and joy, Rob Stair and wife Linda and Kenny Stair and wife Debbie. Three grandchildren who were the light of her life, Adam Stair, Krystal Stair, and Kristopher Stair and wife Tiffany. One great-granddaughter Kelsea Stair. All of the Rawlings area. As well as numerous nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.

On August 1, 1926, Lucille was born and raised on her family's dairy farm in Rawlings, MD. She was the 7th of 8 children in the Armstrong family and the only girl. She loved to tell stories of growing up on the farm, milking the cows, ice skating on the Potomac River, riding her horse Scotty, being elected Allegany County Farm Queen, but her favorite stories were always about driving her dad's tractor. Her love for farm life was always alive within her. All who knew and loved Lucille know that passion continued through her life as she was well known for all her times spent on her tractor at her home across the road from the family farm mowing her lawn and soaking up the sun!!!! She would tell you proudly her roots run deep, and that valley was her home for all 98 years of her life.

She was a 1944 graduate of Allegany High School. After working as a secretary at WVU for a short while, Lucille was a housewife and loving mother. A member of Rawlings Methodist Church and former choir and children's choir director. Lucille along with her husband spent over 25 years square dancing competitively with the Allegany County Promenaders and the Belles & Beaux dance groups. During retirement years Earl and Lucille traveled across the country several times, 50 years of vacationing in the Outer Banks, spent 16 winters in Florida, and shared their love of motorhome travel with their kids and grandkids. Traveling from Maine to Florida, across the Midwest and Utah and Arizona with the grandkids. Lucille lived and cherished every moment of life in the sun until the end; never losing her quick sense of humor.

Family was what filled Lucille's heart with the most joy. Her sons, daughter in laws, and three grandkids always knew Grandma's porch and backdoor were open for impromptu visits, a can of Coke and crackers, songs around the piano, and silly chats any time of the day. During the last 5 years her great granddaughter Kelsea brought the smile of life and joy to her eyes as she watched Kelsea dance, sing, and play. Over the years, she shared a special bond with all seven of her brothers and numerous nieces and nephews who knew her lovingly as Aunt Sis.

Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, MD, (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Thursday, July 11, 2024, from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.
