Maria Katsanos

It is with a heavy heart we notify you of the passing of our loving mother, Maria Demetriou Katsanos, 83.
Maria was born in the mountains of Agia Vlacherna, Karpenissi, Greece in 1938. Daughter to Kostandinos Evangelos Katsanos, Foteni and Evangelos Kaltsounis.
She was a New Yorker for 25 years, Charlottean for the last 40 years.
Wife of 54 years to Demetrios Nicholas Katsanos (deceased). They had 6 children, 10 grandchildren and 5 great grand-children.
Mother to Foteni (husband Nick), Dena (husband Andy), Nicholas, Gus (wife Christine), Peter (wife Carrie), Helen (husband Kirk).
Yia Yia to Strati, James, Jimmy, Maria, Demitria, Despina, Rachel, Melissa, Caleb, and Rory.
Great Yia Yia to Ava, Michael, Anthony, Meadow and Leo.
Loving sister of John (wife Sophia) Kaltsounis, Athanasios (wife Maria) Kaltsounis, Chrisoula (husband John) Doulaveris, Ekaterini (husband Steven / deceased) Pandas, Spiros (wife Fotini) Kaltsounis, Lambros (wife Spiridoula) Kaltsounis. Loving niece of Ekaterini (husband Vasilios / deceased) Doulaveris of Florence, S.C. Aunt and Great Aunt to many.
Maria’s guiding core values included: unconditionally loving those near and dear to her, cooking huge family meals, bringing you a cup of Greek coffee, a sweet treat with a glass of water, her famous one liner quips, tending to her flowers and gardens, maintaining her love and respect for her Greek heritage and devoted love to the Holy Trinity.
Her Trisagion (wake) will be on October 11th at 10:00 a.m., immediately followed by the Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m., at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 600 East Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203, then followed by her burial at 1:00 p.m. at Sunset Memory Gardens 8901 Lawyers Road, Charlotte, NC 28227. Luncheon to follow at Harbor Inn Seafood, 8805 University E Dr, Charlotte, NC 28213.
