Marilyn M. Brown
August 21, 1933 - February 2, 2025 (Age 91)
Marilyn Brown, 91 of Bedford, PA, passed away peacefully at Homewood Martinsburg on Tuesday, February 4th, 2025. Marilyn was born August 21, 1933 in Pittsburgh, PA. The daughter of the late Katherine and Matthew Miller. She was preceded in death by her spouse of 47 years, Dr. Robert B. Brown, son, Gary R Brown. Siblings: George, Helen Paracca, Matthew (Mux), Gertrude Opperman, Ralph & Raymond and son-in-law, Bradley Telep.
Marilyn grew up the youngest of seven children. She attended Perry High School in Pittsburgh, PA class of 1952 followed by St. John’s School of Nursing, graduating class of 1955. In her first week of nurses training, she became a patient when she had an emergency appendectomy. A testament to her character, she refused to quit and continued her grueling training as she recuperated. When she and her mother wintered in Florida, Marilyn worked at the Fort Lauderdale Clinic delivering babies. She was second in charge of the surgical floor in Bellevue Suburban in Pittsburgh, PA.
She and Bob met at The Bedford Springs and were married at Heinz Chapel in 1960. She moved with him to Bedford where they made a home and raised three children. Marilyn dedicated her time to raising her children and family life. No matter who was at the house at meal time, everyone was fed.
She is survived by daughters, Suzanne (Andy), Kimberly (Fred). Her grandchildren whom she loved beyond words, Samuel, Caity, Amanda and Jacob (Molly) along with several nieces and nephews and close friends that became family.
Marilyn enjoyed animals, especially dogs and was a voracious reader. She volunteered with UPMC Family Hospice (formerly known as Home Nursing Agency) for many years and although the bereavement period was supposed to be one year from the date of bereavement, Marilyn created two circles of friends, naming them The Golden girls and The Silver girls who met monthly for lunch and companionship.
The family is grateful for the loving care and compassion provided to Marilyn during her time with Homewood both at Spring House Estates and Martinsburg.
Funeral Service will be will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford with Pastor Andrew Jones officiating. Burial will be private. Friends will be received on Saturday from 10 – 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Our online guest book is available at www.berkebilefuneralhome.com.
